Movies...

So, I'm not a huge movie critic...usually, I either like movies, or don't like them. But, Rusty and I saw a movie the other day that I just had to write about. We saw the new(-est...not quite new anymore) M. Night Shyamalan film, The Happening. It was SCARY!! Not just scary, creepy. Spoiler warning right here...if you want to see it, which I don't recommend, stop reading...

So, there were two main ideas that I had a problem with. The idea behind the movie was sort of interesting. It was how plants can adapt and send off chemicals to protect themselves. So, the story is of the plants being harmed by humans and evolving to produce this chemical to protect themselves from us. So, interesting plot...totally unnecessary violence. But, that's beside the point.

The first main idea that I had a problem with was that the plants had to protect themselves from humans. Ok, totally a green message. I am for protecting the earth, but the Lord told humans to subdue the earth...so naturally, we will till the ground, kill weeds, make farmland, etc. So, the idea of the plants fighting back was just a total disregard of what the Bible told us to do.

Second idea: When the plants put off this chemical, it makes people kill themselves....in whatever possible way. Disturbing enough images, but the idea is in itself disturbing. People are born with the God-given instinct to protect our bodies from harm, quite the opposite from what this movie showed. So, not only was it horrifically violent, but the idea was quite troubling in that people were seeking out ways to harm themselves.

So, quick recap: Don't see this movie!

On a brighter note: Rusty and I love the movie August Rush!! You should see that movie! :)
