Whew!

January is come and gone....with trips, visitors, ice storms, poweroutages...and I haven't been able to write about any of it! Well, I will do my best in the next few days to get you caught up on our life here in Louisville. I will start with the beginning of January, so you will have to travel through our month through these next few posts in the next few days...

My family decided to come up to Louisville kind of spur of the moment. We had chatted about them coming up and helping us with some projects around the house in the fall, but as the time got nearer, we didn't think it would happen. But, lo and behold, come January 9th, they were here. My mom, dad, sister and niece all were able to come. The project for the boys was putting in a new door on our sunroom and the project for the girls was painting our kitchen and finding and hanging a new shade in the kitchen window.

The boys had to remove the old door and its casing and replace it with the new door and molding, threshold, etc. The old door was actually an interior door, so it was a little smaller than the new one, so they had to cut some of the wood of the house to make it fit. It was a big project, but they got it done! It took almost all of the two days that they had here, but it was such a blessing to have it done...and it cost so much less than having Lowe's put it in! :) Yay!!

Here is our old door with the sophisticated locking devise: Screw into the molding!
Needless to say, we are glad to have that thing gone!
Cutting away the old molding

Workin' hard! Finished product! With new locks and everything!
The girls did a great job too! We had to do almost 3 coats of paint to get everything even. I wasn't too sure about the color to begin with, but now I love it. Before, we had painted it a pale yellow, which didn't really go with the rest of the colors in the house. This rich, butternut squash color goes much better. The chocolate colored bamboo shade also looks awesome! With these rich colors, the cabinets pop much better and the room doesn't look washed out. It was a great improvement to the other color.

Here I am hanging the shade...doesn't it look great?

Here it is...it looks a little mustard-y in this photo, but it is really pretty, believe me :)
