Well, last Thanksgiving, Rusty bought his first pipe in England. He enjoyed smoking it occasionally. Eventually, like a month later, he decided that he wanted a different pipe. He had dabbled in woodcarving as a kid and had started carving a chess set for fun. So, he decided to buy a pipe making kit off line. It took him quite a while, but he eventually hand-carved his own pipe…just the shape he wanted. He stained it just the color he wanted and has since loved his first hand-carved pipe the best. He then decided to carve a pipe for one of his best friends, Alex. That took him a bit shorter of a time and Alex loved, loved, loved his pipe.One of his smoking buddies said it might be neat to sell some hand-carved pipes on the side. Rusty and I loved this idea. Rusty bought some blocks of wood and began working on his first set of pipes to sell. The smoke shop owner loved the pipes and is going to put them in his shop soon. While he was making these pipes, several of his friends have commissioned pipes to be made specifically for them. He sold his first pipe 2 weeks ago. In the meantime, Kevin, our connector-extraordinaire, networked and came up with two smoke shop owners in Texas (each owning several shops) who want to go further with carrying Rusty’s pipes.
So, long story short, Rusty doesn’t have enough time to make pipes, go to school and work at Starbucks. So, the conclusion was to step out on faith with Rusty quitting Starbucks and making pipes as his full/part time job. So, there you go. Here are just a sampling of his amazing handcrafted pipes. :)
(**Please let me know if you have a problem with Rusty smoking a pipe. I know it’s pretty crazy to think about, but Rusty has a ‘theology of smoking’ that he has developed. I know, he’s a nerd…and I wouldn’t have it any other way. He and I would love to share it with you if you have any misgivings about his smoking. We would love to dialogue with you about this.) :)
