Our fabulous weekend with the McKies!

I guess we always have weekends with the McKies, becuase, well, we are McKies...but this particular fabulous weekend was with my precious in-laws, Momma Vicki and Daddy Russell. They came up to Louisville two weekends ago and we had such a great time with them. It was so good to catch up on things with them...and they got to see our new house (new to us, that is)!

The drove up on Thursday and got in pretty late. Rusty had to open on Friday at Starbucks, so we were already in bed when they arrived. But, they came over to the house after Rusty got off that morning. They loved touring our cute little home and brainstorming on how to fix our water problem in the basement. For lunch, they came down to my office we all went to Brownings to enjoy hot browns.....yummmmmmyyy!! Here we are at Brownings.
After Brownings, I went back to work and the rest of our little party went to the Louisville Slugger Museum and then to Home Depot to pick up some supplies for the boys' weekend projects. We then had a scrumptious meal of lasagna (yum!!) and relaxed that evening.
On Saturday, after Rusty got home from work (what a hard worker!), the McKies came over and Momma Vicki and I set off for our girlie project (lunch at Panera and lots of shopping!) and the boys got ready for their projects. After a great afternoon of shopping, we came home to some wonderful progress that was done to our house. The boys had decided to put in some lights in the basement that could be turned on with a lightswich (imagine...a light switch...that's just crazy!) and a beautiful pendant light over the sink in the kitchen, again, that could be turned on with a light switch. I'm not quite sure what the previous owners were doing when they designed the electrical plans for our little house, but with Daddy Russell's help, we will get things figured out. Rusty remembered to take photos for all of you in blogland. Because I don't really know the steps involved, we will just have to follow along as the pictures tell the story. :)

Here they are wiring the new light. The old one was wired so that it could be a light with it's own switch on the fixture...this one now has it's own light switch.

Because we had a ton of insulation blown into our attic and because we have such a small space up there, they decided to wire the switch into our kitchen cabinet. Such smart boys.
Here it is with its pretty face plate on
....And, the beautiful pendant light. We got it at Lowes. We had eyed it a while back, but didn't want to spend $40 on it...so, we left it in the store. When we went back and were browsing the clearance table, we found it for $20! We sure did snap it right up! Isn't it just so beautiful?? We both love it!
On to the basement project. We have a total of 3 lights in the basement. One of the lights had a switch in the kitchen that we could turn on before we headed down into the darkness in our basement. The other two had to be turned on by their pull chains. They were just bare bulbs...which seemed to add to the creep factor down there. But... (!) no longer! Here is the little light switch box that the boys put in. Pretty, huh?
Here it is all dressed up with the faceplate and wires.
No befores, but here is one after the fixture was added and the light switch in place.
Here is the other one. Soooo pretty! And, because there are 4 little spot lights, it really illuminates the basement. Creepy no longer!
The boys sure did a great job! Well, after all of our shopping, we came home to so much more light! yay! We then headed out to Flannigans to have the best hamburger in the world...the Murphy Melt....with beer cheese on it. I know, but, surprisingly, beer cheese is awesome!! Yummmmmy!
On Sunday, we headed out to church. We are attending the new Sojourn plant in St. Matthews. It is super good and it just feels a little more like our style with the smaller site and more intimate crowd. Because we all had had such a big day on Saturday, we spent Sunday just relaxing. We had a great lunch and then watched the latest Harry Potter (the latest one that is on DVD). Then, we headed out to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Oh, that might be one of my most favorite restaurants. Soooo yummy. And, we got the best cheesecake for dessert...Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. Yum!
We then had to say goodbye to the McKies. We were so sad to seem the leave, but we will be making a trip down to North Augusta soon to hopefully meet our new little niece, Gracelynn Neivel. We are excited to see everyone and meet her!
